Meeting Times - Start: 7:00 pm - End: 9.00 pm

  1. FUN BUNCH’S 7th ANNIVERSARY ACTIVITY

Mark mentioned how nobody had sent any money towards a Washington Nationals baseball game. Since there was no money, it was decided that the Washington Nationals baseball game on Sunday September 17th would be replaced with an event in October. That event will be a trip to Baltimore, Maryland on October 14th to see the Inner Harbor. We are planning on meeting at

  2. September birthday celebration

It was decided that since Daria and Walter were not present at the meeting, that it would not be fair to plan this occasion without them present. It was decided that the date that had previously been mentioned was not a good idea since the 23rd of September is Rosh Hoshana. I do know that the official observation of that holiday is at night time, but it was agreed upon that it would not be right nor fair to expect the Jewish members in the group to have to observe their holy holiday and then turn around and have to worry about celebrating birthdays at night time. ONE possibility that was mentioned was to celebrate the birthdays the same day that we commemorate the Fun Bunch’s 7th anniversary when we travel to Baltimore. That was a suggestion and it is not set in concrete. The group is waiting to hear from Daria and Walter on that idea.

  3. Germantown Octoberfest

Mark mentioned that this has been an event that we have gone to in the past. Mark asked the group if they would be interested in attending this year’s Octoberfest. Mark admitted that he needed to look on the internet and find out when this year’s Octoberfest is and how much money it costs to get in.

  4. Maryland Renaissance Festival

Mark mentioned how this also has been an event that we have gone to in past years. At first everybody at the meeting was for going to this year’s festival, but then Mark mentioned the cost of getting through the gates costs $17 per person, and then most food and beverages, once inside, costs around $5 - $7 each. Mark mentioned how after paying to get through the gates and assuming that each person only purchased one food item and one soda, the final cost per person would be around $29 - $32. Once faced with the total cost, everybody at the meeting indicated that it would be an enjoyable event but too expensive to go to. ALSO, that final price does not include the cost of gas either.

  5. Halloween Party/Halloween Movies

After discussion, it was decided that the members present at the meeting agreed that they felt like they are too old to dress up in costumes and it was also decided that the members present at the meeting did not want to watch Halloween movies this year. The group was interested in doing something new for Halloween this year, but were not sure of what they wanted to do. We will communicate through e-mails and then also discuss this matter at next month’s meeting.

  6. Holiday Party

Mark mentioned how this year the community room seems to be booked up most weekends in December, so Mark mentioned how it would probably be best to have this year’s holiday party at a restaurant. Mark asked the members present at the meeting to tell me which restaurants that they would be interested in having this year’s party at. We will have to check into the availability of each restaurant, and how expensive each place is, and also if they have any private rooms or not. The choices that were mentioned were:

    That’s Amore- in Gaithersburg, MD
    Carraba’s- in Germantown, MD
    Macaroni Grill- in Gaithersburg, MD
    Rock Bottom- in Bethesda, MD
    Normandie Farm- in Potomac, MD

  7. Valentine’s Party

Mark mentioned how Daria was not able to make tonight’s meeting and how Daria e-mailed me asking me to ask the group what kind of food that they would like for the party. After asking the group that question, people were asking what is the latest on this party. Mark said that Daria has been told to either send me the paperwork with all of the information that she has, or to send it to Judy Lantz. Mark had also mentioned how at the July meeting that it was mentioned “let us keep all options on the table, but it was preferred that we stay here in Montgomery County.” Mark also mentioned how to date Daria has yet to send the paper work that she has to either me or to Judy Lantz. After some discussion it was the prevailing view of the members present at the meeting that it was both to far in advance to be talking about a Valentine’s event and it was also agreed that people would like to do something for Valentine’s Day in the Montgomery County area. It was also agreed that we really do need to look into this matter further.

  8. Bowling

A member asked about the status of bowling. Mark answered by saying that we as a group have been busy, and that things during the summertime were pretty busy for each individual member, and that it did not make sense to try and do any activities during the summer months. It was mentioned how we can try the National Naval Medical Center another time. People in the group would also like to try and see what other bowling allies are available. Perhaps we could get a group rate at another location. The group will look into this matter.

  9. Dr. Jessie

Mark mentioned how the Montgomery County LDA has purchased a joint (both the LDA and Fun Bunch) wedding gift for Dr. Jessie and how the LDA would like Dr. Jessie to open the gift at the October 11th meeting.

  10. FUTURE MEETING SCHEDULE

The next meeting will be on Wednesday October 11th at Mark’s apartment
