Meeting Location: Mark's Apartment
January 10, 2007

Members Present: Mark, Lorin, Eric, Walter, John W., Nathalie, Tracy, Jill

Meeting Times - Start: 7:05 pm - End: 9.00 pm

  1. Group Goal

Mark mentioned to the group how at last month’s meeting some group members mentioned their personal goals for 2007, but that we still needed to discuss a group goal. After some great brainstorming by the group, the “group goal” turned out to be more like “group goals”. The following is a list of the “group goals”

    a) increase the Fun Bunch membership by 15% (During the meeting we defined this goal in terms of the number of people attending meeting as well as actual members in the Fun Bunch)

    b) to communicate with each other more often

    c) attend either national and/or state conferences ( the group discussed that in future years perhaps we could send 2 Fun Bunch members to the national learning disabilities association (LDA) conference. The first year, 2008, perhaps Mark and one other male member could attend. Then the following year two female members could go the national LDA conference. The pattern would be to one year send two male members, and the other year send two female members to the conference. This idea could also be used to advertise the Fun Bunch at a table at the conference. There was also mention of maybe attending state conferences.

    d) Try new activities- The group mentioned how they would like to try and restart up having movie nights, go bowling, also to make a sincere effort to do activities in Virginia, and also in Washington, D.C. Other activities that the group would like to do in 2007 include walking on the canal, going to see plays, going to see cultural stuff. Somebody mentioned that there is plenty of cultural stuff at Montgomery College, also going to see concerts at Wolf Trap, going to Union Station, and even the Shakespeare (spelling?_ festival, and even attending sports events.

  2. January 21st - NEW Activity

Mark asked the group whether or not we still wanted to go ahead with our plans to go snowtubing at Whitetail resort in Pennsylvania. Due to the recent warm weather, and some members having conflicts with the date, we decided to push snowtubing back by one week. So snowtubing is now set for January 28th. The NEW activity scheduled for January 21st is going to have dinner at

  3. February Meeting

Mark explained to the group that Judy was told, by Mark, to cancel the library room on February 14th. Mark also told the group that at last month’s meeting, we had mentioned that we might have a short meeting, followed by doing a fun activity after. After telling the group that we would still need to have a meeting with Dr. Jessie, then the group decided to NOT hold a short meeting and NOT to do something fun on February 14th. Instead the group will have a GAME NIGHT at Eric’s condo on February 17th.

Mark also mentioned to the group that the only two possible dates to have the Fun Bunch meeting with Dr. Jessie would either be on February 7th or February 28th. After discussion, it was determined that the best date would be February 7th. The group decided that if we waited until the 28th, then that would be too much time, 7 weeks, in between meetings. So next month’s meeting will be on February 7th

  4. Walking/Hiking

Mark asked the group if people would like to walk on Saturday’s due to the recent warm weather. Since it was cold tonight, and the cold weather forecast for next week, it was decided that it would be best to hold off until the weather warms up again.

  5. Personal Goals

Mark told the group that those members who have not yet told their personal goals to Dr. Jessie, will get a chance to do so tonight. Those members who told Dr. Jessie their personal goals at last month’s meeting will tell of what progress has been made in reaching their goals.

  6. Dr. Jessie - Goal Setting

Upon Dr. Jessie’s arrival, Mark told Dr. Jessie about the group’s goals and what they were. Mark then told Dr. Jessie that the next meeting will take place on February 7th at his apartment. Dr. Jessie, then proceeded to start with having those members who needed to do so, to tell their personal goals. The goals mentioned at the meeting were losing weight, getting more education, stop panicking, and improving social life, improving communication, controlling anxiety, and learning how to stand up for self, and how to better initiate conversaion (make small talk). The following is a list of the members and their personal goals:

    John W:

    Walter:

    Tracy:

    Nathalie:

    Mark:

    Lorin:

    Eric:

    Jill:

  7. Group Goals, Part 2

Dr. Jessie started to discuss with the group, in what order, in terms of importance, we felt that each goal would be. The following is what the group decided, at least the order in which I think the group agreed:

    a) increase membership by 15%

    b) communicate with each other more often

    c) attending national/state conferences

    d) new activities

  8. FUTURE MEETING SCHEDULE

The next meeting will be on February 7th, at Mark’s apartment starting at 7:00 p.m. At the next meeting Dr. Jessie will help the group members come up with a list of how we will attempt to achieve these group goals, as well as having everybody state what progress that they have made on achieving their personal goals.
