Meeting Location: DAVIS LIBRARY
May 9, 2007

Members Present: Mark, Nina, Eric, John V., Nathalie, Martha

Meeting Times - Start: 7.10 pm - End: 8.55 pm

  1. New Members

The group discussed the issue of when new members enter the group what should the wait period be for them, new members, having access to members’ addresses and phone numbers. After a discussion and a suggestion by Mark of a period of one month, the members present agreed that seemed to be ample time to see if the new member is a responsible and respectable person. The one issue that the group failed to discuss was whether or not the same should apply to applicants who at one time or another had been a Fun Bunch member and is reapplying for membership in the group. Perhaps a group discussion can be pursued through emails and also at the next meeting.

  2. DC 101 Chili CookOff

The group discussed the proposed DC-101 Chili Cookoff to be held in Washington, D.C. on May 12th. It was mentioned to the group that there was cost of $30 per ticket per person. Most everybody present at the meeting seemed to agree that this was a lot of money for sampling a variety of chili. The group decided to go ahead and cancel the proposed event. However, the group proposed to go walking in Columbia, Maryland at Centennial Park on Saturday May 12th at 3:00 p.m.

  3. Cenntennial Park

As just mentioned, the group proposed to meet at Cenntennial Park located in Columbia, Maryland starting at 3:00 p.m. The members present at the meeting seemed to be in favor of walking and seemed to like the location. However, Mark acknowledged that the reality of this trip depends on the amount of members that are interested in going on this trip. Mark will send an e-mail by 10:00 a.m. on Saturday to give final word on whether or not there are enough members going on the trip and thus a final GO for the trip. Should this trip become a reality, the plan is to do some walking in Cenntennial Park, followed by an early dinner, and possibly followed by a movie.

  4. Andrews Air Force Base Air Show

After group discussion, the group decided that the best day to go to the airshow would be on Sunday May 20th. Once again, this depends on how much member interest there is in going to the airshow. Mark will send an e-mail to the group. The cost of the airshow is free, but there is the cost of metro fare to and from the event, money for food, money for any souvenoirs that one might want to buy. (Activity was canceled due to lack of interest.). Group had tentative plans to go see a movie instead.

  5. Eric’s Father’s Lake House

Eric’s father has a lake house in Lake Anna in Virginia. Eric mentioned that this trip will definitely take place in August, although he said he is not sure on what date in August. Keep posted!!!

  6. Colonial Williamsburg

The group discussed doing a trip to Williamsburg, Virginia, to see both Colonial Williamsburg and Jamestown, although no dates were proposed. Nina mentioned that she might be able to get discounts for both locations since her parents live in Williamsburg. There is interest in doing this trip. This trip will either take place either mid to late summer OR possibly at some point this fall. Keep Posted!!!

  7. Luray Caverns

Mark mentioned how he has never been to Luray Caverns and would like to go there. There seemed to be some interest in this activity (Nina, Mark, and Nathalie were interested) although no dates were proposed. Perhaps dates could be proposed at next month’s meeting.

  8. Washington Redskins Training Camp

For this event to be fun and to be special, it would be a good idea to go to the Official Fan Appreciation Day at the Washington Redskins training camp in Ashburn, Virginia. The Washington Redskins have yet to announce when the Fan Appreciation Day is this summer. Once the Washington Redskins announce the day, I will let group members know. At Fan Appreciation Day, the Washington Redskins players sign autographs, the Washington Redskins mascot is there and does pose for pictures with fans, the Washington Redskins marching band plays, and the Washington Redskins cheerleaders perform, and finally the Washington Redskins football players have a practice, which the fans can watch. Of course, we the Fun Bunch can attend another Redskins practice, but all of the other attractions previously mentioned will not be there. Date to be determined. After the practice we can go eat dinner at a restaurant in Ashburn, VA

  9. Leesburg, Virginia

The group agreed to go walking/window shopping/lunch in Leesburg, Virginia on Sunday June 3 The time to meet up for this event is to be determined.

  10. Washington, D.C. and Museums

The group agreed to take advantage to this area’s free stuff, such as museums, on Saturday June 10th

  11. Movie Nights at Lakeside Terrace Condominium’s Community Room

The group mentioned how they had once enjoyed doing movie nights in the community room. Mark will inquire about the rooms availability for the summer and fall months. Mark suggested that the group members e-mail to him movies in which the group would be interested in watching. The group also mentioned how the best nights for movie nights would be on weekends.

  12. 4th of July

The group mentioned how they enjoyed getting together last year for the 4th of July. The group seems like they might want to get together for this year’s 4th of July. So far the members that are interested in getting together for the 4th of July are: Martha, Nina, Eric, and Mark. These people are interested in getting together during the day time on the 4th of July.

  13. Next Meeting

The next meeting is Wednesday, June 13th at 7:00 p.m. at the Davis Library

  14. Packet From Judy

Mark informed the members present at the meeting, that he had received a packet of small, informative , and helpful packets of topics ranging from dealing with stress, job interviewing, changing careers, etc, from Judy. Mark read the note that Judy had written to Mark. At this point, Mark passed around the packet for the members to look at. So far, Martha has indicated that she would be interested in purchasing one packet. Martha gave Mark $1.50 for the cost of the packet. Mark will give the money to Judy. If you are interested in seeing the list of informative packets, please e-mail Mark, and he will xerox and mail you a copy of the packet.

  15. Dr Jessie

Dr. Jessie arrived at 8:02 p.m. Upon her arrival Mark informed Dr. Jessie of all of the activities that we had just planned, as well as the discussion we had regarding new members delayed access to current members’ addresses and phone numbers. Dr. Jessie agreed that due to the screening process that the group currently uses when interviewing a possible member, that a one month delay in allowing new members to view, current members addresses and phone numbers seemed to be ample. Dr. Jessie then focused the group on discussing how the group is doing in regards to making friends, whether strictly just friends or starting relationships. The group mentioned how a few of the members are so busy working their jobs, and not too much time for meeting new people. During the group discussion regarding meeting new people/making new friends the main theme was that it is hard meeting new people. Prior to wrapping up the meeting, the group and Dr. Jessie agreed that the topic for the next meeting will focus on the best/right places to go to meet new friends.
