Meeting Location: DAVIS LIBRARY
June 13, 2007
Members Present: Nathalie, Jill, Daria, Nina, Mark, John V., Jason
Meeting Times - Start: 7.00 pm - End: 9.00 pm
- Probationary Status
The Group discussed the issue. Was noted that this was discussed at last month’s meeting, and at that meeting the members present at that meeting
seemed to be ok with a new person/readmitted person having access to the member’s addresses after only one month.
Just to be safe, this topic was mentioned to be sure that everyone is ok with that.
After discussion the initial consensus was a one month period was not really that long due to the fact that we only have one meeting a month.
It was then recommended that we have a three month probation. Another members stated that we should have it longer and that member stated. “12 months”.
After further discussion, the consensus was that for any new person/ any readmitted person should be evaluated after 3 months.
After 6 months give that person partial access to the website. Then after either 9 or 12 months give that person full access to the website.
For the record, everybody at the meeting was ok with this latest recommendation. It is waiting to have the rest of the members voice their concern/input.
- Year In Review
Mark wanted to do the annual year in review to gauge what activities the group really likes and those activities that the group feels that are not popular are do not like.
The two categories were: GOOD EVENTS and BAD EVENTS.
Under the category GOOD EVENTS:, the following were mentioned:
- Holiday party at Mark’s condo’s community room (with immediate family members invited)
- Bowling
- Miniature golf
- Movie nights at Daria’s parents house in Darnestown
- Redskins Fan Appreciation Day (With a pool party to follow at Nina’s condo)
- Guys night/Ladies night
- Washington Capitals hockey game (Money needs to be turned over to Mark first before Tickets will be ordered)
THE BAD EVENTS:
-Walking- members like the idea, just too hard getting all together
- Ocean City, MD.- members like going to beach; just too much of teenage hangout
- Birthdays
Members mentioned how they would like to start to celebrate birthdays again.
Since this month is June, the members with June birthdays are Lorin, Nathalie, Nina, and Jason.
We agreed that we would celebrate those birthdays at the Olive Garden in Tysons Corner in Virginia on Wednesday June 20th.
We will try to make the reservation for 7:00 p.m. Please let Mark know if you will be attending the dinner.
- Social Activities
The members present at the meeting discussed getting together for celebrating the June birthdays in the group on June 20th, getting together on the 4th of July,
and also getting together for the groups 8th anniversary in September. Here is more detailed listing of the discussed social activities:
- June 20th- Celebrating the June birthdays(Lorin, Nathalie, Nina, and Jason) at the Olive Garden restaurant in Tysons Corner.
Will try to make reservations for 7:00 p.m.
- July 4th- The members discussed meeting up at Daria’s parent’s house on the 4th at 5:30 p.m.
From there we will go to see the fireworks in Gaithersburg, Maryland.
Following the fireworks we discussed the possibility of having a post fireworks cookout at Daria’s parent’s house.
- September 21,22, and 23- The members discussed what the group would like to do to commemorate the group’s 8th anniversary.
It was mentioned that we might be interested in going to Williamsburg, Virginia the weekend of September 21st, 22nd, and 23rd to commemorate the 8th anniversary.
- Dr. Jessie
Due to the bad weather and traffic Dr. Jessie did not arrive until 8:10.
Upon arriving, Mark briefly told Dr. Jessie what the group had discussed during the meeting’s first hour.
After that the group discussed ways/places to go in order to try and meet new friends, whether it be for strictly just friendship or for possibly for
starting a relationship with someone of the opposite sex. During the course of the group discussion the following is a list of ideas:
E-harmony- Group mentioned that this is a successful way, but that it is expensive.
Church Socials- This is a nice way to meet new friends or to meet a possible significant other.
I know churches have social events, I am assuming that synagogues have some type of social gatherings.
Book clubs- Is a nice way to meet “smart” individuals.
Learn To Knit clubs- Is a nice way for ladies to meet up and practice their knitting, either that or learn how to knit.
Scrapbooking groups- Is a great way to organize all of those old photos, yet a nice place to meet new friends.
Country Line Dancing- Is a nice place to go if you like country music or if you like to dance.
Meetup.com- Is a nice way to meet new people. Is a popular and successful way to meet new people.
There are many events that people can choose from, as well as varying age groups too.
CHADD’S website- Is a nice way for individuals with add or adhd to meet up and share their experiences.
Singles dances- Is a good place to go to mingle with fellow singles. It does cost some money. It depends on which singles dance you go to.
After this discussion, Dr. Jessie mentioned how it would be a good idea for fellow Fun Bunch members to group up and attend some activities listed on meetup.com
or any hobby related activity.
- Next Meeting
The next meeting is Wednesday July 11th at the Davis Library in the big meeting room.
The meeting will start at 7:00 p.m. See you at the next meeting!
