Meeting Location: Mark's Apartment

Meeting Times - Start: 7.00 pm - End: 8.45 pm
- Planning Meetings
At the planning meeting that took place on July 11th, Daria had mentioned how she thought it would be a good idea for the Fun Bunch to begin having planning meetings, where we would meet at restaurants once a month on a Friday night, and have dinner as well as discussing planning future activities. That way, during the regular Fun Bunch meetings, it would free up time so we can discuss actual topics for the first hour of the meeting. Although at the meeting tonight, it was brought up that it would be too noisy to talk about activities, not to mention not much space to write notes. After some discussion, it was mentioned that depending upon the time of year, perhaps we could have a cook-out. The only issue that followed that idea was that public parks close at dusk, and there would not be enough time to grill and eat. Mark mentioned how we could grill at his condo. One thought that followed is during the peak summer months, have the cookout at a public park, and in late summer/early fall have the cookouts at Mark’s condo.
- January to May Birthdays
Since we celebrated the June birthdays in the Fun Bunch last month, Mark mentioned how he thought that it would be fair to celebrate the January to May birthdays in the group at some point in August. Mark’s records indicate that between January to May, there are 5 birthdays: Eric-January; John W.-March; John V., Steven D., and Mark-May, all have birthdays. After a discussion, Mark mentioned how he would like to go to Maggiano’s, if it is not too expensive, John V. said that he would like to go to Dave N’ Buster’s. Mark still needs to get where Eric and John W. would want to go to celebrate.
- September Birthdays
We discussed when we would like to celebrate the September birthdays in the group. I know that Daria, Jill, and Walter have birthdays in September. We did not finalize where we would go for the September birthday celebration. We did discuss that we would try and celebrate the September birthdays in the group the weekend of September 15th.
- Other Events
The other events that we have discussed going to include going to the Washington Redskins Fan Appreciation Day (August 8th), Some free concerts that Daria mentioned at the meeting, and The Fun Bunch’s 8th Anniversary event.
- Eric’s Fathers Lake House
We had planned on going on this trip this year, but Eric’s father just recently had rotator cuff surgery and is now recuperating. This trip will now take place in the summer of 2008.
- Fun Bunch’s 8th Anniversary Event
Among some ideas for this year’s event included: a Gettysburg, PA trip(with a possible ghost tour), Williamsburg, VA., Harpers Ferry, WV, or Annapolis, MD. When it came time to vote on which location to choose as this year’s event, we agreed that we could do a two parter. Meaning that we could do one event one weekend, and another event a different weekend. After more discussion, it seemed that the general consensus was that we would go to Harpers Ferry, West Virginia in late September AND then closer to Halloween-maybe in early to mid October go to Gettysburg, Pennsylvania to go see the Battlefield and to also do a ghost tour at night. We will discuss this matter at the August 15th meeting.
- Washington, D.C.
Martha stated that she thought that the group should do free things in the hot summer months, but things that are in air conditioning such as going to see the following locations: the Air & Space Museum, the Natural History Museum, and the American History Museum.
- Dan's Membership Application
Once again at tonight’s meeting we discussed this matter again. It appears that the group is willing to allow Dan to come speak before the Fun Bunch ( the exact date that Dan will speak will be determined at a later time).
Dr. Jessie will be asked to coordinate this discussion regarding Dan's application so both sides of this issue are presented and discussed at a future meeting.
- Next Meeting
The next meeting is scheduled for the Mark’s apartment on Wednesday August 15th at 7:00 p.m.
