- Dr. Jessie
Upon Dr. Jessie’s arrival, Mark asked the group what topic that they would like to discuss. Before anyone could give an answer Walter began discussing his current work concerns/issues. It was then decided that we would go around the room and have everybody give his/her own workplace issues/concerns. The following is a list of what issues people mentioned:
- Introductions
Due to Dr. Jessie being first on the agenda, and the fact that we had a “new” member, we did a quick version of introductions, simply only stating each of our names to Stephen H, who happens to be one of the original Fun Bunch members. Welcome Back Stephen!
- Swimming
We discussed Saturday’s event. Originally at the meeting we had agreed to go swimming at the Summit Hall swimming pool in Gaithersburg, Maryland. However, Mark called his condo office and asked if we could use the swimming pool at his condo. By Thursday afternoon, the Fun Bunch had been given the green light to swim on Saturday afternoon. So, on Saturday July 12th, Mark, Nina, Cathy, Mike, Lorin, Walter, and Nathalie all went swimming at Mark’s condo’s pool.
- Washington Redskins Fan Appreciation Day
Mark mentioned to the group that the Washington Redskins still have not yet posted details about the upcoming Fan Appreciation Day, and as soon as the Redskins post details for the Appreciation Day I will send an email out to the group. Mark anticipates leaving early for the day and not leaving Ashburn until the earliest of 2:30 p.m. More details to follow. The following people are interested in attending:

- August Birthday Celebration
The only birthday in August is Natalie Van Rossum’s. Since Natalie was not present at the meeting, and the fact that most members were pretty tired, we did not talk about this topic. We will plan on talking about this event at the August meeting.
- Fun Bunch’s 9th Anniversary
We discussed this topic at the meeting. Mark told the group the assumed cost of this event per person. Mark stated that the cost per person would range between $59 and $62. Eric stated that he would call to see how many people would constitute a group and would also check on the price. After Eric made a call, he found out that 15 people constitute a group, and that the price per person would be $56.04 per person. Unfortunately, both Eric and Daria will not be able to make the event on September 21st. We might do this event sometime in October. The following people are interested in doing this event:

- Gas/Transportation
Mark mentioned how we as a group have not touched upon this issue since 2002. That was way back when gas was pretty cheap. Mark asked the group if they wanted to leave this alone or change this. It appears that the group would like to change this, but Daria wants to think of an appropriate price per mile to charge. As of 2002, here is the scale of what people had to pay to the drivers:
Short Rides- $3 each way (Sliding Scale $1.50 each way)
Medium Rides- $6 each way (Sliding Scale $2.50 each way)
Long Rides- $10 each way (Sliding Scale $5 each way)
As for the most current system there will be more details to follow.
- September Fun Bunch Meeting
It was mentioned that we are trying an experiment. We will have the September Fun Bunch meeting on the 3rd Wednesday of the month, which will be Wednesday September 17th. The meeting is scheduled to take place at Mark’s apartment at 6:45 for social time, and the meeting starts at 7:00 p.m.
- Fun Bunch December Holiday Party
This year’s December Holiday party will take place on Saturday December 13th. The tentative start time for the party will be 7:00 p.m. Due to the shortness of the second hour of the meeting, we did not discuss whether or not we will be allowing family members to attend. I anticipate that we will be allowing family members to attend this year’s party. However, the location is still yet to be determined. I think that the party will take place at either Mark or Nathalie’s condo’s community room. More details to follow.
- Valentine’s Dance/Party
Daria went over the proposed budget that she put together for this event. The event is still scheduled for Friday February 14th, 2009. Essentially in the proposal it mentions that the party will take place at the Casey Community Center in Gaithersburg, Maryland, and that we are planning on inviting many other support groups, and that we the Fun Bunch will do a car wash fundraiser in August AND in October we will have a fundraiser night at Cici’s Pizza. Tickets for Fun bunch members will be free AND tickets for non-Fun bunch members will cost $4 for singles and $7 for couples. For food there will be finger foods and the following is a proposed budget for the event:
Casey Community Center-Room Rental: $240.00
Food & Beverages @ 5.00 per person x 50 $250.00
DJ $300.00
Decorations $100.00
Total Proposed cost $890.00
Editor's note: 127 couples would need to attend to break even at a cost of $ 890. Food is calculated for 50 persons. Calculations need to be revised
- World War I/Other historical Events
John W mentioned how he would like to, on a separate date and time, for whomever is interested to get together and discuss the causes of World War I as well as the history of World War I, as well as other historical events. So far Daria and Mark are interested. Please let me know if you are interested.
- Next Meeting
Will take place at the Strathmore Court Aparments, Communict Room, October 15th at 7:30 p.m.
