- Welcome
The group welcomed its newest member to the group, Bobby S. He is also a member on the Montgomery County LDA as the corresponding secretary. He is originally from California and went to UCLA.
- Gettysburg, Pennsylvania Trip
Is scheduled for Saturday October 25th. After discussion, we agreed that we would meet at Mark’s condo at 11:00 a.m. and then proceed to Montgomery Mall eatery for a quick lunch. After lunch we will then proceed to Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. Once in Gettysburg, we will then walk around the battlefield and see the new visitor center. Just before 5:00 p.m. we will then check in with the ghost tour office. After checking in to the office, we will then eat dinner at Friendly’s restaurant. We will have to be at the site of the ghost tour at 6:50 p.m. The ghost tour begins at 7:00 p.m. and should be over at around 8:30 p.m. Shortly after the ghost tour, we will then make the drive back to Montgomery County, Maryland. The cost per person for the ghost tour is $9. Also remember that on top of the $9 for the ghost tour is the $6 per person each way for gas money to the driver of each car.
- Halloween Costume Party
Will take place at Mark’s condo’s community room on Halloween night, October 31st, starting at 7:00 p.m. and lasting until around 10:00 p.m. If you would like you may dress up in costume OR if you do not want to that is fine too. Hope to see you on Halloween night!!! Also, since Mark will be paying out of his own pocket, there will be a $5 per person charge to help pay for the cost of the community room. The group agreed that everybody should B.S.F.F. ( bring some finger foods) and some beverages too.
- L.D.A.M.C. Membership
Judy Lantz had wanted the membership of the Fun Bunch to know that Fun Bunch members are welcome to sign up for membership in the Learning Disabilities Association of Montgomery County (L.D.A.M.C.) for only $20 per year. Bobby, our newest member, had blank membership forms available. So far Cathy and Mike have signed up to become members in L.D.A.M.C.
- Food at Meetings
It seemed that the group was OK with having food and beverages at meetings, as long as everybody takes turns bringing food/beverages to meetings.
- Free OR low cost activities
It was brought to Fun Bunch members attention that at the recent Fun Bunch officer’s meeting, we discussed ways that we could save money and we also agreed that we would come up with a list of either FREE or LOW COST activities that the group could start to do. Here is a list of what the group came up with:
• Movie nights (both movie theatre and DVD)
• Snowball fight/snowman making
• Hikes
• Day trip to beach
• Bowling
• Going to museum
- December Holiday Party
December Holiday Party- Will take place on Saturday December 13th, at Mark’s condo’s community room. The starting time is tentatively set for 4:30 p.m. and will last until 9:30 or 10:00 p.m. Judy Lantz will be inviting 4 or 5 LDAMC board members and Judy will tell them they may bring an individual that is interested in becoming a Fun Bunch member. From what I can tell, members will be allowed to bring 2 family members, on a first come-first serve basis. Essentially members will need to sign their family members up with Mark, as space at the party will be limited. The fire marshall limit on people in the room is 45. I estimate that there will be between 15 to 20 Fun Bunch members; Judy and Susan will be present; the 4 or 5 LDAMC board members with their guest; and assuming we have at least 10 to 16 family members that would put the amount of people at: 48 people. I am not sure if they will be in the room at the same time, but at the worst case scenario, we could put about 5 or 10 people in the lobby area. The group also decided that they would like to do a mix of both a cocktail style and an entrée style party. The group compiled a list of some of the foods that they would like at this year’s holiday party:
• Turkey
• Shrimp
• Meatballs
• Latkes
• Challah breah
• Desserts
• Turkey chili
• Mini quiches
• Salad
• Pasta salad
- Next Meeting
The next meeting will take place on Wednesday, November 19th at the Strathmore Court Apartments community room.
ALSO PLEASE NOTE that the December Fun Bunch meeting will for one time only take place on the 2nd Wednesday of the month, which will be December 10th at the Strathmore Court Apartment Community Room.
