Friendship
There was a discussion on how to build friendships and the fact that it is truly difficult to meet people, whether it be for strictly friendship or for companionship. The discussion focused on how to create your own network of friends and events to do. Coco assigned the group some homework, which was to come up with one piece of advice that could help someone build their own menu of things to do AND friendships.
- Communication
The group was asked about what is the best form/way to communicate events/ event times/ meetings, etc. Would it be better to send only e-mails OR would it be better to do only phone calls. Or would it be better to do both??? After some discussion, it was decided that the best way to communicate meetings, and events is to do both e-mails AND phone calls. From that the discussion centered on starting up a phone tree system. Where one person would call one person, and then that person calls another person and so on until everybody in group knows about the meeting or event and the details of the meeting or event.
- 15-minute break
At this point, Coco left the meeting and it was already 8:35 p.m. The group agreed to take a break, but since we were so late, we agreed that we would combine the break and talk business at the same time.
- December Holiday Party
Will be held on Saturday December 13th at the Lakeside Terrace Condominium Community Room. At the meeting Mark stated that the meeting would begin at 4:30 p.m., however, Daria says that she would prefer the party to start at 5:00 because she will have a hard time getting to the party by 4:30, and she would like to be present when the party begins. SO, do we want the party to start at 4:30 OR 5:00??? Regardless of what time the party begins we started to assign members with what food item they will bring. Here is the tentative list:
Natalie Van Rossum- Either potato salad OR pasta salad.
Nina- Ham
Nathalie Bell-Irving- Veggie Trays???
Cathy & Mike Burke- German Chocolate Cake???
Mark- Turkey Chili & Meatballs
John Vere- Ham
Jill- Turkey & Pasta Salad
Daria- Cheesecake???
Stephen Hosmer- Sodas
So far, these were the people that attended the Fun Bunch meeting. We still need to assign food to the members who were not present at the meeting but will be present at the holiday party!!!!
- Secret Santa Gift Exchange
The group was asked whether or not we want to do a Secret Santa gift exchange. Of the members that were present the following members expressed an interest: Natalie Van R, Nathalie, Cathy, Mike, Bob, and Mark. I will send out an e-mail asking if other members want to participate. If we do the gift exchange, it will be done at the December 10th Fun Bunch meeting!!!
- Toys For Tots
Daria suggested that we, the Fun Bunch, do a Toys for tots campaign this year. It is not mandatory, but for those members that are interested, then please bring a new, unwrapped toy to the December 10th meeting and Daria will make sure that it gets to Toys For Tots drop-off.
- Holiday Lights
The group was asked if they wanted to go downtown to Washington, D.C. to see the National Tree OR if they would prefer to drive through and see the Seneca Park lights. The consensus I got from the members at the meeting was to go downtown to see the National Tree. Date to be determined later. An e-mail will be sent out.
- Birthdays
The group was asked when we wanted to celebrate the December 2008, January 2009, February 2009, March 2009 birthdays. The prevailing answer seemed to be to celebrate those birthdays in February 2009. It was agreed, first at the officers meeting in October, and then agreed to at the regular Fun Bunch meeting in October, that we would begin to celebrate birthdays in the group only 3 times a year.
- Fun Bunch website Traffic
Mark wanted to survey the group to see who in the group regularly uses the Fun Bunch website, and who in the group DOES NOT regularly use the website. For those members who do not frequently use the website or never use the website, what would entice you to use the website on a more regular basis??? This was mentioned at the 15-minute break, but not many responses were given. One response I had was that a member forgot how to log-on and thought that it would be a good idea during a meeting, if we could go over how to log onto the Fun Bunch website!!! Another members remarked to get rid of having to use a password to access the website. We also need to see what would make members consistently use the website too!!!
- Next Meeting
PLEASE NOTE!!! The next Fun Bunch meeting FOR DECEMBER ONLY will take place on the 2nd Wednesday of the month (DECEMBER 10TH) at the Strathmore Court Apartment Community Room at 7:00 p.m . At the meeting we will plan on doing the gift exchange, as well as talk more about the final planning for the December holiday party!!!
