Meeting Location: Strathmore Court Apartments Community Room

Meeting Times - Start: 7.10 pm - End: 8.50 pm

1. New Member
   New Member- Jeremy, Jeremy’s mother, Daria, and Mark met for an interview prior to the meeting. Jeremy seems to be a nice, friendly person who has autism/P.D.D. During the interview, Jeremy said that he enjoys eating out, likes historical stuff, likes amusement parks, likes museums, likes shows, plays and going to the movies. He also likes to talk about movies too. Jeremy’s mother mentioned that a website, goldstar.com, once you subscribe to goldstar will send you a weekly listing of free stuff to do, and also low cost events. Jeremy found out about the Fun Bunch through the Abilities Network. For now, Jeremy will only attend activities; however, if he feels comfortable enough he might start to attend meetings. I am sure that we will see Jeremy at a future event.



2. Carl Sandburg Learning Center Fund Raiser
   On Monday January 26th, from 3:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Fallsgrove CheeBurger CheeBurger, 15% of the proceeds the restaurant makes will go to the school that I work. So, if you are interested make sure to tell Mark as soon as possible!!!



3. Super Bowl Party
   Eric volunteered to host a superbowl party at his place on February 1st. Since the meeting, Eric has sent out an e-mail to members stating that he needs to know who will be attending no later than Friday January 30th!!! The party will begin at 5:30 p.m. Eric also wants to know who is going to be bringing what to the party. So make sure to tell Eric if you are coming and if you are what you will be bringing!



4. Snow Tubing
   We discussed this, and as of this minute we are tentatively going to go snow tubing on February 21st. I believe that we will be going snowtubing at Liberty Mountain. We will meet at Daria’s place in Frederick, Maryland. From there we will car pool to Liberty mountain. The time to meet-up was not discussed. In regards to price, I believe that the price of two-hours of snow-tubing is around $18 to $20. Plus money for food/beverages and gas money for the drivers.



5. Game night
   Natalie Van Rossum has agreed to host a game night at her place on Friday night January 30th. I do not recall a time being mentioned, but I would think it would start around 7:00 p.m.



6. Muli-Birthday Celebration
   We have set the date of March 7th at 5:30 p.m. to celebrate the December 2008, January 2009, February 2009, and March 2009 birthdays. Since there are quite a few members who have birthdays we had every member at the meeting write on a piece of paper his/her preferred restaurant. The winner was T.G.I.Friday’s on Rockville Pike in Rockville, Maryland. I will send out an e-mail with a complete list of who has a birthday in the above mentioned months.



7. Creating One’s Own Social Life
   Mark explained that he only had time to research MOVIE meet-up groups before his school’s server went down. For the record from last month’s meeting the two prevailing topics were HIKING and MOVIES. Getting back to MOVIES. Mark mentioned that he thought that there were 4 possible groups that might interest the Fun Bunch. The possible groups were:
   
   a) Potomac Movie Lovers- Potomac, MD. Founded 8/28/08. There is a $1 per event charge on top of the cost of the event.
   
   b) MD/DC/VA Dinner and a movie – Alexandria, VA (505 Members) - Their next event is scheduled for January 24th at 2:00 p.m. at the AMC Hoffman Center 22 which is located on 206 Swamp Fox Road Alexandria, Virginia 22314.
   
   The next event is scheduled for February 7th at 6:00 p.m. The event is: Blair mansion Inn Restaurant and Murder Mystery Dinner. Someone seemed to think that this is in Silver Spring. Some members seemed to be interested in going. Because I am not a member of meetup and also not a member of this particular meetup group I was not able to find out the cost of this event or where it is going to be. Keep posted.
   
   c) The Alexandria Movie Fans- Alexandria, VA (639 members) Founded 2/26/06
   
   d) Discount Movies and other cheap fun- Annandale, VA (227 members) Founded 4/28/08
   
   Of all of the choices mentioned, the only group that members seemed to be interested in was the Potomac Movie Lovers group because it is in Maryland. The group was interested in maybe going to the murder mystery dinner on February 7th.
   
   One member, I believe it was Natalie Van Rossum, suggested a group called Germantown Fun Bunch, which goes bowling, but we still need to look up more information. Other event possibilities that were mentioned were maybe having some movie nights at the Strathmore Court Apartment community room; maybe going to a pub/bar for Karioke.



8. Valentine’s Party
   The Fun Bunch decided that they would still like to go ahead and have the planned Valentine’s party, on February 14th, at the Strathmore court apartment community room. I believe that the party will begin around 4:00 p.m. That way couples will still have time to go out for dinner. Please let Nathalie and Mark know if you will be attending the Valentine’s Party.



9. Next Meeting
   The next meeting will take place at the Strathmore Court Apartment community room on Wednesday February 18th. Hope to see you on the 18th!
